On 1st January 2018 the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) replaced IRR99.

As part of the changes to the legislation you will need to register (NOT Notify or get consent) your practice with the HSE to comply with IRR17 by 5th Feb 2018 (even if you have previously notified HSE of the use of dental x-ray equipment at your practice/s. The fee per practice is £25, which is a one-off payment and you won’t need to apply again unless the information you give changes significantly. To register you will need to visit the following HSE website https://services.hse.gov.uk/bssd/

Before you start and / or during the registration process you should refer to https://webcommunities.hse.gov.uk/connect.ti/radiationcom/view?objectId=665413&exp=e for guidance.

You will only need to answer the Details about the employer (all applicants) & then click to confirm you comply with all registration questions (see screen shot below). A combination of regular radiation survey inspections and a well-maintained radiation protection file should enable you to comply, but please ensure your practice complies before submitting.
