The Medical Physics Team

Poole Hospital's Medical Physics Department has over 20 years’ experience in providing dental practices with Radiation Protection services, in order to comply with both the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IRMER 17). Which are monitored by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Offering services to both private dental practices across Dorset and local NHS hospitals including Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Christchurch Hospital, Wimborne and Swanage Hospital.

Our team is made up of 5 members of staff ranging from Physicists to Radiographers, with a wealth of experience testing x-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, UV and ultrasound imaging equipment.

Stuart Utting - QA Radiographer

Stuart has been a Radiographer since the early 1990s, specialising in Nuclear Medicine first and then moving to Medical Physics in 2004. He has interests in perception, image quality and optimisation with a particular interest in dental radiology.

Claire Davies - Healthcare Scientist

Claire is a Clinical Scientist, having worked at Poole Hospital since 2009. Specialising Diagnostic Radiology Physics.

Michael Brooks - Healthcare Scientist and Medical Physics Expert (MPE)

Mick joined Poole Hospital in 1993 and is a Health and Care Professions Council state-registered Clinical Scientist in Diagnostic Radiology and Medical Physics Expert (MPE).

Hannah Scott - Trainee Healthcare Scientist

Hannah joined the Medical Physics team in 2014 from university, after graduating in Physics with Medical Physics. She has since continued training at Poole Hospital via the Scientist Training Programme specialising in Radiation Safety.

Andrew Hunt - Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Laser Protection Advisor (LPA)

Andrew is the Head of Medical Physics and a Consultant Healthcare Scientist with over 30 years Medical Physics experience. Andrew is an accredited Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA), Laser Protection Advisor (LPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE).
